STUDY UPDATE

September 2011: The Final Report is ready for viewing or download.

February 2011: The Final Report has been submitted to WorkSafeBC. A meeting of the WorkSafeBC Board will have a chance to review the report and findings at their May meeting. After the Board meeting, the final report will be reposted here.

June 2010: The first draft of the Final Report has been sent to WorkSafeBC, and stakeholders. We anticipate that by the end of July 2010 the Final Report will be posted on the Results page of this site.

January 2010: Analysis is in the final stages, and the report is due out soon.

August 2009: Personal results letters have been mailed to each participant! If you did not receive your personal result letter, please contact us.

December 2008: Personal and Environmental sampling was completed back in November 2008. The next steps for the study are to complete analysis on all the data collected. See the "Study Overview" page to see what stage we are at.

For the Personal and Environmental sampling, we were successful in recruiting 58 fire fighters. We have complete data on 55 fire fighters - 5 more than our goal of 50 fire fighters.

"Thank-you" to all of the individual fire fighters who volunteered their time both during work hours and on their days off. We appreciate your interest in the survey, your patience, and primarily your willingness to be sampled. We also appreciate and welcome any comments and suggestions for aiding in the study's goals even now that sampling has finished. We are hoping that Personal Result Letters for all participants will be sent out in late Spring.

We'd love to hear from you. Please let us know if this website has answered any questions you may have about the study, or if there is anything you would like to see added.

This research is being conducted in cooperation with the cities of Vancouver, Victoria, Burnaby, Prince George, Port Moody, Surrey, the District of North Vancouver, and the British Columbia Professional Fire Fighting Association and is funded in part by WorkSafeBC. All research is carried out by scientists at the University of British Columbia with the assistance of participating Fire Departments throughout B.C.
